As part of the

Public Health Agency of Canada

's (PHAC) commitment to provide the public with access to information about its policies, programs, services and initiatives, grant and contribution (G&C) funding opportunities will be referenced on this Web page.

The 'solicitation process' is the most common approach used by

PHAC

to provide G&C funding to recipients who will undertake projects that contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the program and respect the priorities of PHAC. There are three types of solicitation:

Open

An open solicitation is a process whereby an 'Invitation to Submit Applications' (ISA) identifies a wide audience: universities, non-governmental organizations, community groups, and/or provincial governments. In this case, the funding program will launch an ISA on its Web page and any other means of communication to reach as many applicants as possible. See

Targeted

A targeted solicitation is a process whereby an ISA identifies a specific type of applicant, discipline, or geographic area such as 'universities only' or 'Aboriginal groups only'. In this case, the funding program will communicate directly with the potential applicant(s).

Directed

A directed solicitation is a process whereby an ISA identifies a specific type of applicant from a specialized field such as 'medical doctors in the North who treat Aboriginal patients'. In this case, the program will communicate directly with the potential applicant(s).
